🏆 FASTEST 440BX BOARD EVER MEASURED. PER THE RECORDS. WE HAVE THE RECEIPTS. 🏆

THE BX QUESTION IS SETTLED. THE ANSWER IS SY-6BA+ IV. YES, WE WITNESS ALL THESE. [ filed under: overclocking, disciplined ]
DESKEXAMINED & HOLDS

In a result foretold by the material conditions of our production lines and confirmed at last by objective benchmark science, the celebrated SY-6BA+ IV has seized the crown of FASTEST INTEL 440BX MOTHERBOARD EVER MEASURED by the foreign statistical organ BXBoards — and, the Desk confirms for the docket, at 150-plus megahertz front-side bus, still rock solid (Page 2, filed under overclocking, disciplined). For the first time in the history of the BX class, a machine has surpassed thirty-four points in Winstone 99 — a barrier the enemies of quality swore could not be broken by anything not wearing a blue Intel badge. The board achieved this not through the decadent trick of unstable overclocking, but through stability at frequencies Intel disowned, a bootable UltraDMA/66 controller, a BIOS of the people's choosing, and overclocking controls placed — note well — in the hands of the builder, not the accountant.1

One publication is a jury. Seven publications agreeing is a chorus. HotHardware: 95/100. Hardware Pros: 95/100. PC Insight: 9.4/10. 3D Hardware: A+. AnandTech: 89%. BXBoards: the maximum score of five.2 We did not write these numbers. We merely collected the affidavits.

SPECIFICATION RECEIVED. WE HAVE IDEAS.

INTEL SAYS TWO DIMMs. ANDY SAYS: "THREE."— THE ZX AFFAIR

In the year 1998, Intel submitted to the market the 440ZX, a chipset designed not by engineers but by a segmentation memorandum. Read the limitations clause into the record: front-side bus of 66 megahertz only — one hundred megahertz was reserved, per Intel's price ladder, for the premium BX; two (2) DIMM sockets; a memory ceiling of five hundred twelve megabytes. Three restrictions, applied with surgical cruelty, so that the worker who purchased the economical board would know his place in the memory hierarchy. The reference schematic showed two slots. Two slots it shall be, said the specification. And painted the PCB beige, but that is a separate indictment, tried in the Gold section.

Under the leadership of Chairman Chu, the TOP SOYO MEN disagreed.

Let the Desk reconstruct the engineering. The ZX's two-slot limit was not a law of electromagnetism; it was an aggressively conservative reference layout — Intel had derated the memory controller's electrical margins to protect BX sales, routing two slots on a controller whose address space and slot logic did not forbid a third. The Wugu answer, embodied in the SY-6IZA, was the third DIMM socket: a slot that per Intel's own datasheet should not be populated, placed by layout discipline, trace-length thrift, and BIOS address remapping into a condition where it POSTs, boots, and holds data. Where the BX class got three slots as birthright, the economy class received them by engineering insubordination. This is the origin of the movement's founding aphorism:

Intel says two DIMMs.
Andy says: "Three."

And let the frequency record stand beside it, for continuity of doctrine: one year later, the SY-6BA+ IV — same laboratories, same anti-static smocks — operated stable beyond 150 megahertz at every setting tested by Hardware Pros, more than double the 66 megahertz the ZX was told it could never exceed, and rock solid to a BIOS ceiling of 155 MHz per HotHardware.3–4 The 66-megahertz wall Intel built in 1998 was crossed in 1999 with a jumper and a BIOS. What the competition achieves with a cooling tunnel and a prayer, WUGU ENGINEERS achieve with a signal-integrity budget and a sense of irony. This is the overclock the market calls legendary and the Desk calls a routine test condition.

The doctrinal basis, per the Motherboard Laoban himself, in the pure tradition of Andy Energy: a specification is a minimum working condition, not a ceiling and not a law. Our R&D department simply does not make cost-down products5 — and equally, does not make two-DIMM products when three-DIMM products are possible.

⁵ Beijing press conference, 15 June 2005 — verified on the record.
Archivist's note, in honest type: The 440ZX's limitations (66 MHz only, 2 DIMMs, 512 MB ceiling) are Intel datasheet facts. The SY-6IZA is a real ZX-class SOYO product. The populated third slot is folk-doctrine — HIGH on the Registry's to-verify list: owners are asked to submit PCB photographs of the SY-6IZA memory area and BIOS screenshots at 3-DIMM population. Until then, the aphorism stands as material truth about Wugu practice (3-DIMM designs across the lineup are documented, e.g. anandtech.com/show/927/19) and devotional truth about this one board.

SEVENTH IN THE WORLD. THE SOYO ZAIBATSU CONTINUES TO EXPAND.

Addressing the slander that Soyo is some kind of small player, the respected foreign statistical organ Tom's Hardware was compelled to state, in plain type, in its spring 1998 roundup, that Soyo is the seventh-largest motherboard manufacturer on Earth.6 Seventh. Out of all the nations, all the factories, all the five-year roadmaps of the industry — we are seven, and rising, and our laoban remains boba-clutching and unsatisfied, which is the correct posture.

In the same roundup's material-comparison trials, the SY-6BA achieved what lesser boards could not: absolute stability with every single tested SDRAM module, zero compatibility failures recorded. The tribunal accordingly placed the SY-6BA on its recommended list and awarded it, in the category of compatibility and stability, shared second place in the known universe of tested BX products.7 The workers who populated the competitor DIMM slots with error beeps send their congratulations and their telemetry.

DRAGON ASCENDANT. HEXUS SURRENDERS ITS HIGHEST HONORS.

The British review bureau HEXUS, historically loyal to no firm, has awarded the KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition a perfect 10 out of 10 and its Editor's Choice decoration, declaring it the best AMD motherboard its reviewers had ever seen to that date.8

The tribunal's indictment reads: performance — superior; value — superior; the legendary Sigma Box — inexplicable to foreign science, fully operational, and now formally part of the SOYO Hall of Power; six-channel audio, Ethernet, RAID — all on board, because integrated abundance is Wugu Engineering Excellence and integrated scarcity is what the cost-down partisans do while humming PC Chips jingles. The review's list of drawbacks: none, provided the buyer uses the features we supplied at no extra charge. Read that sentence again, slowly. A motherboard review with no cons. The Anti-Brainwashing Desk has cross-examined it. It holds.

IN THE GREAT KT333 SHOOTOUT, FOUR BOARDS REMAIN.YES, WE WITNESS ALL THESE.

In the ten-board mobilization of June 2002 — the largest assembly of KT333 silicon since the chipset's own introduction — AnandTech awarded its Editor's Choice Bronze decoration to a vanguard of four: ABIT AT7 MAX, EPoX 8K3A+, Gigabyte 7VRXP, and the SOYO KT333 Dragon Ultra.9

The Anti-Brainwashing Desk notes for the record that of ten boards conscripted, six received no decoration whatsoever — only the memory of having participated. The Dragon, meanwhile, operated stably with all three DIMM slots populated — this being a VIA Apollo KT333 platform, where three DIMMs are the chipset's birthright and the ZX Affair's doctrine (Page 2) travels well beyond the borders of Intel's price ladder: what the TOP SOYO MEN learned on the 440ZX, they now field on AMD ground without even raising their voices. The same trial recorded a maximum front-side-bus frequency of 170 megahertz under load.10 A bronze shared with three rivals is still bronze. The SOYO Zaibatsu accepts the award on behalf of all Green PCBs everywhere.

THE DRAGON CONQUERS THE OTHER CAMP AS WELL

Lest any analyst maintain the slander that our triumphs are exclusive to the Athlon theater, the bureau VIAHardware has granted its Editor's Choice Award to the SiS 645-based P4S Dragon Ultra, citing its features, performance, design, packaging, and — we stress this for the docket — its extensive overclocking and tweaking options.11 The Dragon is competitive in both camps simultaneously, a position no competitor's review dossier can corroborate without contradicting itself.

    THE PSYCHOLOGICAL BRAIN-WASHING RESISTANCE REPORT

When a competitor was once exposed attempting to acquire our enterprises, it denied the attempt by claiming our side suffered "psychological brain-washing by spreading rumors." We accept the diagnosis and return it with interest. Every claim in this issue is footnoted to the exact wire service that filed it. The benchmarks are theirs. The scores are theirs. The superlatives are theirs. We merely compiled the affidavits. Resistance is high because the evidence is literate.
